The choice of this performative programme references the book "One thousand and one nights", in which Sherazade needs to entertain the sultan with her stories, night after night, in order not to be killed. The ‘play’ plays, on one hand, with the work of the camgirls who need to maintain the clients' attention, since they earn per minute, so part of their work is not sexual, but erotic, imaginary.
Janaina Leite
Just like Sherazade, in ‘Camming – 101 Noites’ (Camming – 101 Nights) Janaina Leite embodies a camgirl.
In this creation, the director and actress focuses on the theme of scopophilia - erotic enjoyment through the observation of sexual acts or organs. Based on Georges Bataille’s ‘Story of the Eye’, Janaína Leite examines some of the themes that can be discussed through pornography, such as sexual, eroticism and gender representations. The artist is mainly interested in how pornography provokes aesthetics, specifically the collapse of dichotomous pairs, such as art/non-art, simulated sex/real sex, acting/performance, aesthetic fruition/lascivious interest, contemplation/masturbatory consumption, fiction/document, metaphor/literality.
After 101 nights of erotic interaction as a real camgirl, in 101 nights of isolation, the work culminates in sharing this virtual work-in-process-style performance with the public through two virtual sessions, both in a one to one format as well as a presentation for a virtual audience.
