"Ôss" is how you say bone in creole. Phonetically similar to OSS, a polysemous expression common among practitioners of Karate, that in its origin, encapsulates ideas of exerting pressure, pushing, supporting or tolerating. But this phonetic relationship is, at least in part, purely coincidental, for what interests us is the bone - that keeper and unveiler of millennial secrets, guardian of anatomic orientations, structural frame for our fragile, soft parts. Paradoxically, building a strong skeleton, where a foot functions as a brain, the heart serves as an elbow and the knees are a liver and an ear, is completely within the realm of possibility because, by the end, soft or hard tissue, it won't really matter at all.
