On the 22nd of January there will be a meet-up “Bright Talks”, organised under the purview of “Bright Horses”, for students of High School Dance courses.
Six performers – three duos of twin siblings – bring to the stage their real-life experiences, as well as their internal and family dynamics, as a means of reflecting critically about competition in current society. They develop three choreographic dialogues between siblings positioning themselves within territories of dispute, aggression, mourning, parting, affection, illustrating the complexity of familial relationships.
Using intimacy as a method of resistance, they question a construction of identity based on the comparison with others, in a search for perfection, uniformisation, favouritism (both real and perceived) and a culture of high performance.
In today’s social and political context, “Bright Horses” is also a reflection on the way bodies and interpersonal relations are shaped by the pressures of competition and capitalism, offering audiences an incisive criticism of the narratives of power and oppression.
